Begur is situated inland some 700 ft above sea level, and enjoys a superb view over the whole coastline out over the Medas Islands and inland to Pals. Located between the towns of L'Estartit and Calella on the Costa Brava coastline of Catalonia in north-eastern Spain, the town of Begur has a resident population of around 4,000 and a municipal area of 20.7km2. Situated in the district of Baix Emporda within the province of Girona, the town also includes the areas of Esclanyà (with Roman remains), Sa Tuna, Aiguafreda, Aiguablava, Sa Riera and Fornells. The village of Begur has become a major tourist centre with a wonderful selection of cafés and restaurant hidden amongst the narrow streets of the village. A gentle stroll around the village and up to the castle build on the ruins of the fortress destroyed in 1465 is an opportunity that should not be missed. The beaches of Sa Tuna, Sa Riera and Aiguablava are a short drive away. The Cape of Begur on which all these beaches are situated consists of an immense geological mass, dropping down to the sea in vertical cliffs. The local street market for Begur is held on Wednesdays, other nearby markets are held in Estartit on Thursdays and Palafrugell on Sundays.
